Overview
About us
2009 is proving to be a memorable year for National Trust. Weve broken records for membership, volunteering and income generation. However, if weve learned anything over the past century, its that we cant afford to stand still. We recognise that our future depends on continuing to inspire, enthuse and engage millions of people around our cause. In this varied role, youll blend the practical hands-on work you love, with the creative strategic thinking youre so good at, to get the most out of our portfolio of Torbay gardens, parks and estates for visitors, volunteers and team members alike.
The role
Working closely with the Property Manager, youll provide experienced, integrated conservation support across a diverse portfolio. Taking a confident lead in the management and maintenance of these unique places, youll put visitor enjoyment at the heart of everything you do. Imagining hundreds of people enjoying these green spaces and engaging with all they have to offer will be your motivation, as you build close relationships with the volunteering team, curators, the conservation manager, Gardens Advisor, Learning officers and two Assistant Head Gardeners, (who you will also manage). All-in-all, youll make the most of every day to ensure these beautiful places can be enjoyed by everyone, for ever.
About you
With significant senior horticultural/historical parks experience (ideally as a Head Gardener or similar), youll have a broad knowledge and love of first class plantsmanship and will be looking to apply and develop your practical expertise in a more strategic, office-based management role. At your best when working in a multi-disciplinary team, youll be as creative as you are organised. Well be looking for a minimum of NVQ3 in Amenity Horticulture or RHS Intermediate/Masters (or equivalent) as well as Health and Safety IOSSH (or equivalent). Good IT skills and a current clean driving licence are also essential for this role.
